The Race of The Pacesetters: APSULites' Review of the 2023/2024 Tenure
As the tenure of the Pacesetters comes to a close, this piece shines the spotlight on what APSULites think of the journey so far. By Temiloluwa Oyegoke
It was June 27th, 2023, when the current executives, led by Semilore Faleti, said “I do” to be the forerunners of the department. Ironically, this piece drops just a day shy of their one year in office. But if you're curious to know what APSUlites think about their 364 days in office, then you're in for a ride.
The Pacesetters
Just like me, many of us noticed the sudden but welcome addition to their signature address on official posts. If you don't know what I mean, it's the 2023/2024 NIPSA Executives announcing themselves as the pacesetters.
According to Collins dictionary, A Pacesetter is someone who is in the lead during part of a race or competition and, therefore, decides the speed or standard of the race or competition for that time.
The executives, in addition to promising a better NIPSA, further assured us that there would be a significant change in the association's dynamics. In a word, they said, “It's time for APSUL and APSULites to change the tide, with us taking the lead.”
Now, this author would like to ask, did they? And who better to answer the question than APSULites?
Was the Pace Set? What APSULites Have to Say.
Sule Opeyemi, Renegades.
This current crop of NIPSA Executives, led by Semilore, has to be one of the best ever (in Pharmac, at least). Now, I say best and mean it in every sense of the word. I have seen a couple of past administrations (they were mostly underwhelming). While it wasn't the fault of some of these admins (remember COVID and all), some were just outright bad. And they just didn't exactly raise my expectations when the current one got elected.
However, you cannot deny the impact of the current exco members. They call themselves “pacesetters.” And for real, what a pace they are setting. Now, it's somewhat cool to be a Pharmac student. All events were done, and you could just see the effort. I mean, I am a little on the inside. But I think I am objective enough to be able to tell when something is just good. I am just going to say, well done. I hope the next set of exco members do take it to the next level.

In my years of study at CMUL, this is the best set of excos Pharmacology has ever had as a department.
In the past few years, the department was seen as a dying entity when it came to activities, but this set marked a significant turning point. I’d say they broke the apathy trend in the department.
The planning — activities, publicity, volunteers, committees, locations — were perfectly put in place, making all events successful.
The highlight for me was the good relationships formed between students across levels. It was beautiful to see and experience. To be very honest, the current exco members outdid themselves and truly deserve their flowers. I encourage the next set to strive to be better, hotter, more dynamic, and more innovative.
Let's take Pharmac higher and let CMUL hear it!

The Excos were a match made in heaven. They were more like a family. They took the department from ground zero to the sky. They put in a lot of work. The turnout has been the biggest in the history of pharmacy. We’re indeed the Big Apsoul. I’m looking forward to what’s in store for dinner. Fingers crossed. Love y’all.
To Semilore: You faced what many of us would have shied away from—you faced it head-on. We’re so lucky to have a president like you. I hope the next person fills your big shoes.

I would like to start by saying that this is the best tenure of Pharmacology Executives I have seen in my little time at CMUL.
I do not intend to juxtapose this tenure with the past tenure, However, this tenure outperformed and surpassed my expectations. I loved that they organised an opening ceremony for the sports week and began the custom of celebrating APSULITES on their birthdays. The nice and catchy designs for easy dissemination of information are also worth noting.
Oluwaseyi Adeniyi, Fearless.
I think they did pretty well. All of the events (Sports, Health, and Fashion Week) were superb, and their coordination of these events was a brilliant job! However, there were a few lapses and oversights. Overall, I think it was a good tenure. I hope the coming Exco sets will do even better.

They are indeed the Pacesetters. From the horror stories of the previous tenure's health and sports week and seeing the shock on people's faces that Pharmac can pull off elaborate events, I know it took a lot from every single Exco member. I can imagine the amount of time, dedication, and headache that has gone into it all.
I have had the pleasure of working with almost every single one of them. The one thing that is common across the board is how seriously they take their roles and the hard work they all put in to deliver on their respective duties and also support each other. They are always showing up for each other even when they are not obliged to. This is true unity and teamwork.
They revived APSUL! And they indeed set the pace. We can only go higher from here, and I hope the new tenure blows their records out of the park. It won't be an easy feat though.
God bless you for all you've done, Pacesetters
Looking Forward
I couldn't agree more with the sentiments shared by fellow APSULites, and I'm sure many of us have the same opinion. The current executives truly set the pace with their outstanding efforts, from Sports Week to Health Week and even Fashion Week. This tenure also launched many first-of-its-kind events like community outreach, quiz and debate, marathon, and, of course, the trade fair.
APSULites bagged a big “W” this session, and that's on period.
With such positive reviews and high expectations, a lot is riding on the next set of executives. They have big shoes to fill, and the pressure is on to maintain and exceed the current standards. So, if you're thinking about buying a form and stepping up, be prepared. Good luck, and ensure you're up for the challenge!
