How to Step Up Your Finances as a Medical Student in 2025
Locking in for 2025 requires more than drive: You'd need action too. Check out the top ways APSULites plan to take action this year and gain control of their finances.
Whether you’re a newborn on the soil of the College of Medicine or someone who’s accustomed to how the system already works, there’s one thing you can’t ever get accustomed to: CMUL Billings. From lab manuals to dues to the mere cost of survival and eating normally, living in CMUL comes with several costs, which most would agree are above normal.
But this is 2025, and everyone’s searching for ways to better themselves and their finances, including medical students—specifically budding pharmacologists. So, we took to the online streets of APSUlites to learn how our fellow students intend to address this issue this year. Here’s what we found:
Tech: Not Limited to a Niche
It's no news that almost everyone is venturing into tech somehow. From data analysis to copywriting and web development, the world of tech and tech development is a source that APSULites intend to draw from in 2025.
Beyond the common tech names like front-end and back-end development, however, many APSULites are opting for less popular niches such as data sciences, cybersecurity, and Python—some of which pay more than other more popular tech niches. Don’t say you didn't get an update.
Content Creation
In 2024, content creation for social media skyrocketed, and we saw the rise of creators like Hauwa and Tobe. Well, this year, many APSUlites plan to tap into this field. While some might find it handy for getting quick payouts, others are in it for the long haul, focusing on building a career that’d thrive even after school.
If you’re thinking about going into content creation and you’re still unsure of what content would draw attention to you, I’d suggest that you start with the things you love. For example, if you love visiting places, you can venture into reviews for various popular hangout spots.
Entrepreneurship
The good thing about being an entrepreneur is that there's no limit to what you can sell. Whether it’s a skill like fashion design and cooking healthy meals or commodities like food items and medical books and supplies, starting a business might be what you need to finally hit those financial goals while nearing fulfillment.
Another good thing about starting a business is that if you don't know where to start, you can reach out to someone who already has a business and get help or advice.
The Bottomline
The truth is, you can make money from doing almost anything. All you need is enough direction and a set goal. So, if none of the things we’ve covered in this piece resonate with you, create your own niche and run with it.
Yes, it is easier said than done, but that hasn’t stopped people from doing it anyway. Find what you like and are interested in, do some research, and start. 2025 is the year you finally lock in—we believe in you!
